Diane Marie Schindler

Diane Marie Schindler passed away on Monday, September 14, 2026, at her home in Butte. She was born on July 5, 1948, in Dickinson, North Dakota, to Stephen and Leona (Doyle) Gall. Diane was raised in Butte and Twin Bridges, attending St. Lawrence School in Walkerville and graduating from Twin Bridges High School. She also attended Montana State College in Bozeman. Diane worked at Metals Bank in Butte and First National Bank of Dillon, where she met the love of her life, Francis J. Schindler. They were married in Dillon in 1970. Diane and Francis spent the next 30 years ranching and raising their family in the Big Hole Valley. After retiring, they enjoyed many adventures snow birding to Arizona, where they made many wonderful friends and enjoyed playing cards, happy hours, and countless laughs. Diane’s greatest joy was her family. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and developing unique and special bonds with them. She sent thousands of birthday, anniversary, and special-event cards, rarely missing an occasion that was important to someone she loved. She was an accomplished cook and loved to feed all who arrived at her table. Diane will be remembered for her fierce loyalty, her deep love of family and friends, her generous spirit, and her appreciation for nature. She had a way of making people feel cared for, whether through a home-cooked meal, a thoughtful card, a shared laugh, or simply being there when she was needed. Diane is survived by her husband of 56 years, Francis Schindler; her son, Joseph Schindler; her daughters, Carrie Taylor and Harmony Schindler; and her grandchildren, Jordynn, Justine (Orion), Charlisa, Connor, Patrick, and Kassandra. She is also survived by her brothers and sisters, Tom (Theresa) Gall, Ginny (Kerry) Koenig, Ken (Mark) Gall and Nancy (Mel) Moe; her sister-in-law, Barbara Van Cleve; her aunt, Ann Nelson; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and close friends. Friends may call Wednesday afternoon at 5:00 p.m. at Wayrynen-Richards Funeral Home, where a parish vigil service and rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday morning at 11:00 a.m. at St. Ann Catholic Church, with entombment to follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
