Inge O'Mara

OBITUARY MATERIAL FOR INGE O’MARA Inge O'Mara, 79, of Butte passed away after a long fought battle with cancer on November 17, 2025 in her home surrounded by her family. A celebration of life will take place in the Spring for her with later details to come. Inge was born on April 22, 1946 in Germany to Waltraut "Wally" Wünderlich. Inge lived in Germany until she was an adult where in 1968 she moved to Butte, Montana to reunite with her mother. On August 19, 1972 she married Joseph (Joe) O'Mara. They together had two sons Joseph (Joe) Jr. and Daniel (Dan) O'Mara. Throughout Inge's life she loved to serve people. All of her jobs included helping people: a butcher, a hospitality worker, and working in the East Ridge Laundromat. She also was a stay at home mother to her sons while the boys grew up. Inge's family was her pride and joy. She loved her sons very much, but that later transitioned into loving her three granddaughters and later her three great grandchildren. You would often times see Inge at every home sporting event that her granddaughters played. Inge picked up the love of golf and boy did she live and breathe that sport. You can see her name on a lot of plaques at the Muni. She absolutely loved her ladies league, the Bonnie Highlanders, and all of the women there. Her favorite was the family days where she would bring her incredible potato salad for other families to enjoy. Speaking of that potato salad, she would make it for her granddaughter that would visit from out of state, even through her chemo and radiation treatments. Inge was loved by many. Anyone that came across her was befriended by her. She loved her bowling league. Her favorite was hosting holiday celebrations such as birthdays, 4th of July, and of course her Thanksgiving meal; the one where she cooked for an army of people! Inge loved playing with her great grandchildren and even in the last years while she was fighting cancer, she still found it in her to have them on her lap to play horsey or to get onto the floor to play with them. This year relatives from Germany reached out to her family in hopes to reconnect. We spent times facetiming her family. That brought such joy to her, and we are forever thankful for those moments. Inge came from Germany in 1968 to be reunited with her mom, and now we cannot help but think that they are now reunited in heaven together. Inge will be missed by her family and friends: Her husband Joe O'Mara, Children Joe (Tammy) O'Mara, Dan O'Mara, Granddaughters Kayla (Cedric) Hewitt, Brianna O'Mara, Laynee O'Mara, great grandchildren Kesler O'Mara, Tanyon & Kayleyanna Hewitt, Step brothers Mick(Kathy) McClafferty, Dan (Edie) McClafferty, Brother-in-Law John (Sheila) O'Mara, Sister- in-Law Joan Curtin of Helena, Carol O'Mara of Las Vegas, and special (family), Heather Tischmak, Jodi Reynolds, Allie Henderson (Rylan and Romeo). Inge is preceded in death by her mother Wally McClafferty and step-father James "Jim" McClafferty as well as many other aunts and uncles and grandparents. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
