Jean Marie Cislo

On February 19, 2026, the Heavenly Father called one of his angels home, Jean Cislo. Jean passed away peacefully due to complications from a fall. Jean was born to Leo and Eva Schapiro in Butte, Montana on October 5, 1936. Jean attended Butte Catholic schools graduating from Girl’s Central in 1954. Immediately following graduation, Jean went to work for Safeway corporate office as a bookkeeper. After the closure of the office, Jean went to work for Town Pump corporate office. Retiring from Town Pump was not the end of her work life. She went to work part-time for Red Mountain Trucking, finally retiring at the age of 82. To say she had a strong Butte work ethnic would be an understatement. Jean married Leonard Cislo on July 25, 1959. Their marriage was blessed with one son. Jean and Leonard separated but remained very good friends. Jean enjoyed many hobbies. She was very proud of her yard and spent hours attending to it. You could not find any leaves or dandelions in her yard. She would glow with pride when neighbors commented she had the best yard on the block. Jean enjoyed traveling with her good friends. She had many adventures within the United States and Europe. One of her biggest joys was being able to visit the Vatican. Jean loved the holidays, especially her annual family Christmas Eve dinner. She would start the preparation shortly after Thanksgiving. How she was able to fit over 30 people in her small home was nothing short of a miracle. She had a magical way to accommodate everyone. She always looked forward to the end of the evening when everyone had left except her cousin, Herb Venner. They would part take in a few glasses of Christmas cheer. Jean was a huge Neil Diamond fan. She made her son attend at least nine of his concerts over the years. If you called her on Sunday morning you would hear Neil Diamond blaring in the background while she was cleaning her home. Jean was an avid bowler winning a few tournaments over the years. She enjoyed a few vodka oranges to get loosen up before tossing the ball down the lane. Jean enjoyed cooking and baking. Her specialty was her chocolate chip cookies which she made from memory. These treats will be greatly missed. Jean’s biggest love was her family especially her granddaughter Katie. As her granddaughter, Katie, stated “Grammie was meant to be a Grandma”. From the day Katie was brought home, Jean bonded with her. Taking Katie in her arms and she never let go. Jean never missed any of Katie’s important life events traveling to Utah to attend each one to include school activities, soccer games, dance recitals, holidays and birthdays. As Katie grew, she and Jean became bigger partners in crime. Never knowing what trouble they would get into always lead to great stories and lasting memories. When I moved to Utah every Sunday I would call my Mom at 8 am. We would talk for hours mostly about the goings on in Butte. Even when I traveled, I figured a way to call on Sunday at 8 am. Over 40 years of weekly calls we never said “goodbye” it was always “have a good week and talk to you soon”. I am going to miss those calls but Mom, I will talk with you soon, plan on Sunday at 8 am. Mom, you have left a large hole in our hearts and we miss you already. We take comfort in knowing you are no longer in pain. Your confusion and frustration are gone. We will see you again which is providing needed comfort at this difficult time. Jean was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Leo Schapiro and nephews Tony and Tom Schapiro. Surviving is her husband Leonard, her son and daughter-in-law Jeff and Michelle, her granddaughter and husband Katie and Jeremy Alas, her nephew Tim Schapiro and niece Theresa Forster. The family would like to thank the staff of Big Sky on the Waterford and Enhabit Hospice for their care of Jean. Jean has been cremated and laid to rest in Holy Cross Cemetery. A Celebration of Life in Jean’s honor will be held on March 28, 2026 from 1 to 4 at Uno’s Lounge 3235 Harrison Ave, Butte Montana. Please plan on attending to share memories of Jean.
