Lat John Bailey

Lat John Bailey, aged 64, passed away peacefully on February 21st, 2025 surrounded by family and friends in his home in Butte, Montana, after a two-year battle with cancer. He was born February 26, 1960 in Butte Mt. He went to grade schools in Helena and Pocatello, he moved back to Butte in 7th grade and continued his education at East and graduated from Butte High School in 1978. He attended MT Tech and received his associates degree in business. Lat was a family man and always found ways to provide for his family. Doing this he worked many jobs to do so. He worked numerous jobs through high school including, Seven Eleven, Ponderosa, and the Caruther’s Ranch. He was a carpenter at Buffalo Homes where his dad was the Foreman. Lat was very handy with computers and took on many IT jobs over the years. Some of these jobs consisted of the Controller at KXLF news and IT at AFFCO. He went to work for Rainer Grobauer and was his go to for many things. He kept everything going with the Police Stations, Town Pumps, and the Hummingbird Café. He traveled all over the state doing this and continued his friendship with Rainer throughout the years. When he wasn’t working, he was in the outdoors. Lat loved hunting, snowmobiling, and taking a ride on dirt roads. Lat enjoyed camping and fishing at the Big Hole River. He passed on his knowledge of the outdoors to all his kids and grandkids. He loved teaching everyone everything he learned just like his dad did for him. Lat would sit out on his front patio and watch all the cars going by knowing which car would drive by at a certain time waving at everyone, while listening to the police scanner drinking a twisted tea. Lat is survived by his wife of 42 years Nora, and their Children, Nathan Kendall (Rachel), Nikki Sawtell (James), Erik Bailey (Shell). His Brother Lance Bailey (Shani), and his sister Gerette. His brother-in-law Robert Kendall. He is also survived by numerous Aunt and Uncles, nephews and nieces and the following Grandchildren, Emily (Nate), Tanner, Kynslee, Coy and Charlee, Tucker, Ella (Falcon), Brylynn, Skylar, Dakoda, Madi, Haylie, Nick and Kass. Great Grandchild Grayson. Close friends Floyd and Julie Brinton and Rainer Grobauer. He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Karen Bailey, and his sister Denette Boyd. His niece Tausha Frodsham. His grandparents John and Ann Bailey, Larue and Theo Skinner, and his son Ricky Kendall. Services will be held at St Patrick’s Catholic Church in Butte, Montana on March 1ST, 2025. Lat’s Viewing will begin at 10:00am followed by mass at 11am. Lat’s ashes will be laid to rest with his friends and family at one of his favorite spots at a later date.
