Mary Laverne Horne

Beautiful mom, grandmother, sister, and great grandmother LaVerne Horne passed away peacefully on Sunday March 24, 2024 surrounded by her loving family. LaVerne Horne was born in Meaderville district in Butte, MT to Guy and Kathleen Isola. She attended local schools. 1n 1952 she met Tom Horne. They eloped in November of 1953 in Coeur d’Alene. LaVerne worked at JCPenny in Butte for over 30 years in the advertising department. She sold salami for years with her sister and was known affectionately by many as the “Salami Lady”. She served on numerous committees and was a member of many clubs including the Red Hats, Meaderville, Lady of the Rockies, and JCPenny’s Retirement Club. She organized parties and events and was always the life of the party. She took charge of super bowl boards and hosted many lively events in her home where the lucky guests got to feast on her superb cooking skills. Her husband and family were spoiled with her homemade bread and rolls and her husband refused to eat any other bread but hers. Many Italian recipes have been handed down to her children, grandkids and family members. She often had written recipes, but most seasonings consisted of pinches, bits, a little and some which we could never figure out how to measure. She had a special talent for making authentic Italian meals and enjoyed teaching her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years Tom Horne and her parents Guy and Kathleen Isola. Nephews Rene Dallas and David Isola, Brothers-In-Law Philip Dallas and Jim Hanley, Sister-In-Laws, Delores Hanley, Joann O’Connell, Susie Batterman and Marion Isola, In-Laws Thomas and Maggie Horne. She is survived by her sons, Steve (Debbie), Kevin (Denise), and Don (Amy), brother Lloyd Isola, twin sister LaVaun Dallas and brother-in-law Marvin (Debbie) Horne. Grandchildren John Johnson; Bob Horne (Chelsey); Stevie Lee Horne; Tom Horne (Jennie) and great grandchildren Maci and Hallie; Zack Horne (Bri) and great grandchildren Bladen and Eleye; Brianna DeWitt Fukunaga (Justin) and great grandchild Jordi; Lauren DeWitt; Maggie Moore (Harold) and great grandchildren Michael and Grayson; Michael and great grandchild Allee. Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Services will be held on Thursday, March 28, 2024 at Wayrynen-Richards Funeral Home at 12:00 PM with visitation beginning at 11:00 AM. Burial to follow at Mountain View Cemetery and reception following at Serbian Orthodox Parish Center at 2100 Continental in Butte. Donations can be made to the Lady of the Rockies, an icon she was passionate about and volunteered at for many years.
