Sharlot J. Richards

Sharlot J. Richards passed away peacefully with her loving family at her side Monday morning, July 30th at St. James Healthcare. She was born Sunday, November 13, 1921 in Havre, Montana to Arthur J. and Bertha (Sterrett) Raymond. Sharlot’s family moved to Butte when she was a toddler and they made their home on the upper west side. She graduated from Butte High School in 1940, attended Woodbury College for a year in California, then returned to Butte and went on to graduate from Butte Business College. She married Frank A. Richards in Butte on January 6, 1943 and together they made their home on a gorgeous ranch in the Big Hole valley for 57 years. Sharlot was known throughout the area for her amazing yard and beautiful flowers, which she took much pride. Sharlot was very stylish and elegant, in fact she would garden and even ride the lawnmower dressed in her Sunday best. She enjoyed hosting people from all over the country who came fishing on the Big Hole River – each day she had a table full of friends and new acquaintances. Everyone who came in contact with Sharlot immediately loved her. She was an amazing homemaker; she took much joy in cooking and baking, and always had fresh molasses or sugar cookies and everyone’s favorite – Syrian bread for all to enjoy. Frank and Sharlot moved to Butte in 2000. They enjoyed nearly 20 years at the Waterford in their charming cottage. Sharlot was the welcome wagon to new residents in the cottages, remembered every neighbor’s birthday with a homemade cake, and continued her garden legacy with a yard full of beautiful flowers. Sharlot was extremely proud of her 6 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Her heart was overflowing with love for them and she relished every moment spent with them. She is preceded in death by her parents, her son Raymond Richards, Frank’s parents, Emil and Mary Richards, sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Larry Coffey, brothers and sister-in-laws Dick Raymond and Betty Raymond, Don and Peggy Raymond, her brothers-in-law Bart (Maxine) Richards and Darwin (Evern) Richards and sister-in-law Margaret (Mike) Minnehan. She is survived by her loving husband of 75 years, Frank Richards, her children, Bob (Judy) Richards, Mary (Francis) Lucon, and Dave (Mitzi) Richards; her grandchildren, Angie (Paul) Quilici, Marissa (Ryan) Wood, Justin Richards, Benjamin (Carrie) Lucon, Peter (Janice) Lucon, and Joseph (Hilary) Lucon. Her great-grandchildren include: Taryn and Brityn Wood, Nolan, Brody and Ryatt Richards, Sophia and Logan Lucon, Helen, Alice and George Lucon, Paisley Lucon (on her way) and numerous nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the professionalism and loving care at St James Healthcare, specifically Tracy and Camilla, Dr. Perry, A1 Ambulance (Mike & Trish McGree), and her personal care nurses (Nina, Kim, and Jeanna).
