Sigrid Isaacson

Sigrid Isaacson passed away peacefully Sunday April 3, at the Memory Care unit at Big Sky Senior Living. Sigrid was born January 18, 1926 to Finnish immigrants Charles and Stema Kahila in Chassell, Michigan. Sigrid was very proud of her Finnish heritage throughout her life ..especially in her cooking and her love for pasties & polka. She thoroughly enjoyed the Finnish sauna from her childhood and on thru her life whenever possible. Sigrid grew up in the Michigan UP and graduated from Chassell High School , where she attended many of her class reunions always enjoying being with her family and friends. Sigrid married her first true love Paul Saarinen in Michigan . He preceded her in death in Detroit after only 6 months of marriage. On December 15, 1951 she married Reno (Vic) Isaacson in Angola, Michigan. Soon after Sigrid and Vic found their way to Butte following other family members to work in the Copper Mines. Sigrid was employed as a bookkeeper at Butte Motors in her early years, and later at Sweetheart Bakery. Sigrid and Vic enjoyed the home they built together, working in their garden, fishing and camping, and many trips to the UP in Michigan to be with family. One of her greatest enjoyment was spending the day at Boulder Hot Springs. Retirement brought them to Gulf Shores of Alabama & Florida to enjoy the winters with her family and many friends they made over the years. Sigrid was a very generous and caring person, although she didn't have children of her own, she greatly cared for her nieces and nephews. That nurturing we will carry throughout our lives. Sigrid was preceded in death by her husband Vic in September of 2005 , brothers Onni, Ray & Donald, sisters, Sylvia, Elsie & Helmie. She is survived by her sister Edna Crosbie Sebring Fla. Nephews Phillip (Martha) Crosbie, Sebring Fla., Randy & Jon Barberis of Michigan, nieces, Sandy (Wayne) Stodden Butte, Mt. Doris West Sandy Hayes , Karen Connell (Gary) , Kathleen (Jerry) Betke all of Michigan, and many other beloved nieces and nephews. Also surviving are her dear friends, Suzanne and Jim Stilwell.
