Charles Matthew "Charlie" Cantwell

Charlie M. Cantwell, 39 of Butte Montana passed away Friday, March 10, 2023. His passing is indeed an event of tragedy for this community, as Charlie was well known and well liked by a huge network of people. He will be best remembered for being a truly once in a lifetime friend and a personality the world doesn’t see enough of. Charlie liked everyone; it didn’t matter who you were. He always had a smile and word of encouragement to give. Charlie was raised in Butte to Jeri and Dave Cantwell. He attended West Elementary, East Junior High School and Butte High School before enlisting in the Army after Graduating in 2002. He honorably served his nation at the 10th Mountain Division at Fort Polk, Louisiana as a Forward Observer. Charlie left the military honorably following an injury and spent time down south before returning to Butte and getting engaged to his wife Carrie, and then getting married in 2009. Charlie was always by his family’s side, and you couldn’t ask for a prouder husband and father. Charlie was a skilled Machinist for Affco and used his position to go back to Highlands College where he continuously made the Dean’s List before graduating, and advanced his career further. Much of the specialty machinery that is used in big mines and industrial applications were made by Charlie and his shop. Charlie wasn’t just talented at his job, he seemed to be one of those people who was just good at whatever he tried, but you wouldn’t catch him boasting as he was one of the humblest people you could ever meet. Charlie certainly left his mark on this world, and it is a lesser place without him. He can be best described as a one in a million kind of person. He enjoyed spending time with all his friends and family. Fishing, boating, hunting, and motorcycle rides with friends and family were activities he loved the most. Charlie is survived by the love of his life, Carrie and their daughters Aurora, Aaliyah, and Athena. His parents Dave and Jeri Cantwell. His siblings Angela (Randy) Mathias, Jennifer (Pat) Crossman and Isaac Mott, his brother-in-law, Art Mathias, his nieces and nephews, MicKenzie, Stephan, Joseph, Evan, LJ, Rebel, Cheyanne, Wyatt and Dylan and his grandmother Carol Eddy as well as many aunts, uncles and cousin. He is loved, he will be missed dearly. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will be conducted at a later date.
