Dave Crockett Keltz Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

The Keltz Family lost their North Star on January 23, 2022. Dave was born in Butte on July 21, 1925, to Clyde and Christine Keltz (Flubacker). He was raised by his grandmother Helena and attended Whittier Elementary and Butte High School. After leaving High School Dave served honorably in the Unites States Navy during World War II. Dave married the love of his life, Shirley, on July 6, 1946. They attended Carol College and Montana State University. After graduation Dave began his Vocational Education and Administration Career of over 30 years. Dave also received a master’s degree in Vocational Education from the Northern Montana College. Dave was instrumental in establishing the vocational program at Butte Vocational Technical Center, where he served as the assistant director. During this time, Dave became the Butte High School ski coach where he was instrumental in promoting skiing as a competitive sport in the state of Montana. In 1959 he was successful in making skiing a high school varsity sport for both boys and girls. He was an active and lifelong voting member of the Butte Ski Club and established many relationships with his students, colleagues, and athletes. Dave and Shirley also established their own business, working side by side for many years, performing home appraisals throughout the state of Montana. They were always busy in their work and supporting their sons, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Dave and Shirley enjoyed traveling both in the US and abroad. We know that Pops and his dear Twink are dancing in each other’s arms with a smile on their faces to the legacy they left. Dave is preceded in death by his dear wife, Shirley who passed in 2015, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Edward and Joan Richards. He is also survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Dave E. and Romelle Keltz, Gary T. and Linda Keltz, and Betty Lou Keltz: grandchildren, Kale and Shasta Keltz: Kori Keltz and Robert Woodhouse, Shane and Meredith Keltz, Valerie and Kevin Huls: great grandchildren, Katie Hatch, Hudson Keltz, Hannah Hatch, Zoey Woodhouse, Kendal Keltz, Ian Keltz, Samantha Keltz, and Keaton Huls: half-brother and sister-in-law, Harry and Darlene Keltz; and special friends, Steph Kore, Jim and Evelyn Graham, Mary Sukovski, and Dorthy Zemljak. The family would like to give a big thank you to Highland Hospice for their loving care and support, especially Stacey, Kathleen, Dana, Debbie, and Sabina. An Interment with Military Honors will be held on April 15, 2022 at 11:00am, Sunset Memorial Park. This will be immediately followed by a celebration of life at the Front Street Station until 2:30pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Dave’s honor to the Bagdad Shrine Transportation Fund for Children or the Butte Ski Club. Dave had a passion for literature. He felt a home without books was like a room without windows. On behalf of Dave, his ongoing gift is one of his many books.
