James T. Hewitt

Surrounded by his family, Jim passed away on June 10, 2025. He was born January 19, 1942 to Bob and Ann Hewitt & was raised on the hill in Centerville with his brothers John & Bernie. He attended St Lawrence Grade School & graduated from Butte High. Jim served his country in the Navy from 1961 to 1963. In 1964 he went to work for the ACM as an underground miner. In 1965 he became a boilermaker (Local 130) & continued with them until the ACM shut down. He later worked as a construction boilermaker in (Local 11) & worked all over the US till he retired in 2003. Jim married his wife Mary (Cookie) in 1969. He is survived by his wife Cookie & their 4 children: sons Bill Hewitt (Chris), Jamie Hewitt (Theresa), daughters Michelle Sholey (Jack) & Rochelle Schultz (Rob), 13 grandchildren Justin Hewitt, Josh Hewitt, Jacob Hewitt, Heather Hewitt, Jayce Hewitt, Jeff Schultz, Kaitlynn Cyr, Callie Mithell, Ryan Tregidga, Lacy Sholey, Thomas Andrade, Nikita Ruane, Kenny Andrade, 22 great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law Peggy Flynn, Pat Hewitt, Arthel Hewitt, several nieces & nephews & good friends Ken Weldon, Ken Schlein, Dave Eustice, Tony & Kathy Jangula. Jim was preceded in death by his parents & brothers John & Bernie, grandson Jamie Schultz, nephews Bernie & Bob Hewitt & good friends Jim Wonnacott, Jack Ritter & Tom Billteen. Jim was a friend of Bill W. for 34 years. He had many friends whom he shared this experience with and created life-long friendships. This was one of his proudest accomplishments and every day he celebrated this part of his life in his own way. Jim was always very proud of his hometown Butte & would never allow anyone to ridicule it. He loved being outdoors, camping, riding his 4-wheeler, anad like his grandson Jamie, was an avid hunter & most years always got something. He enjoyed hunting with his kids, grandchildren & friends. He was with his kids when they first shot something and with his grandsons Jamie & Jeff when they shot their first elk. He liked to tell his grandkids that he was “the poorest man in Butte” but if they needed something he was right there for them. He loved his grand-children so very much. His grandsons were his “pardners” & his grand-daughters were his “brats”. We will miss our Jim very much. He was “Special”. The family would like to express their gratitude to the Enhabit Hospice nurses and staff, our niece Anna Hewitt and with our family and friends for their love. support, visits, calls and prayers during this time. Memorials can be made to the Enhabit Hospice 1940 Dewey Blvd, Butte or the Belmont Senior Center Attn: Meals on Wheels 614 E Mercury, Butte. Servies for Jim will be celebrated on June 18, 11:00 a.m. in Wayrynen-Richards Funeral Home. Interment will follow at St Patrick’s Cemetery and a reception will be held at 1:00 p.m. at the McQueen Club on Continental Drive.
