James Joseph Murphy

Mr. James Joseph Murphy passed away Saturday morning, July 13, 2019 in St. James Healthcare. He was born in Butte Friday, June 8, 1928 to Thomas and Mary (Hudson) Murphy. Jim attended Butte Schools, graduating from Boy’s Central. He worked as a blacksmith for the Anaconda Company until 1959 when he went to work in the warehouse at Greybar Electric. He then went into sales moved to Billing briefly and returned to Butte where he worked for Westinghouse until his retirement. Jim married Betty Kelly in St. Joseph’s Church on August 8, 1954 and together they had two children. She passed away March 7, 2015. Jim was a 65 year member of the Butte Elk’s Lodge, B.P.O.E. # 240, and belonged to the Elk’s Drum and Bugle Corp. He was an avid bowler and he and Betty were accomplished dancers. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Vicki and Rudy Mayer of Tumwater, Washington, son and daughter-in-law, Ed and Sherrie Murphy of Butte, grandchildren: Amber and Jason, Marissa, Shayne and Keiyn, Jami and his great-grandchildren: Jaylynn, Ashlinn, Kymberlin, Cale, Cason and Kaleb. Also surviving are his brother John Murphy of Anaconda and sister-in-law, Mary Ann Harkness of Rigby, Idaho. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
