James Edward Thompson

June 6, 1937 - April 11, 2022

James Edward Thompson passed away at age 83 on April 11, 2022 in Oak Ridge Tennessee. He was born June 6, 1938 to Jesse Edward Thompson and Mary Keenan Thompson. Jim graduated from Butte High School and Montana Tech where he earned a degree in metallurgical engineering. He worked for the railroad while in high school and college and after graduating from Tech, Jim accepted a position with Y-12 Nuclear in Oak Ridge Tennessee where he worked for the next 43 years. Jim was an avid downhill skier and enjoyed many trips with his ski club around the US and abroad. He enjoyed reading, UT football, Atlanta Braves and Cincinnati Reds baseball and travel. He was preceded in death by his parents Jesse Edward Thompson and Mary Keenan Thompson. He is survived by his long-time companion; Juanita Barnes, Uncle; James Keenan, Keenan and Thompson family cousins; Rita (Dave) Ronning, Rhonda (Chuck) Lee, Jim (Laura) Keenan, Sheldon (Emily) Burt, Mari Burt, John (Karen) Burt, David (Terry) Burt, and Janet (Russell) Brown, Dennis & Julie Brown, Greg & Patsy Cork, Wally & Colleen Cronen, Joe Ellen Magnuson, John & Allison Thompson, Kevin & Katherine Thompson, Mike & Marlene Thompson, and Bob & Terry Thompson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Montana Tech at 1300 W. Park St. Butte Mt 59701. Services have been held in Oak Ridge.
