Malina Ann Redfern Bruin Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Malina Ann Redfern Bruin passed away of natural causes Sunday, January 31, 2021 at her home in Butte. She was born in Butte Sunday, January 16, 1938 the youngest child to Florian and Clara (Derringer) Tardiff. She attended the Emerson Elementary and Butte High School. She and John E. Redfern were married in St. John’s Episcopal Church on October 1, 1955. They moved to California in 1958 and spent the next 30 years in Concord and Livermore areas. Malina worked for Alpha Beta and Safeway Stores throughout the Bay area and retired in 1988. In November of 1988 they returned to Butte to be close to her mother. On September 13, 1989 John was tragically killed in a construction accident at Butte High School. In January of 2000 Malina married longtime Butte resident Buck Bruin and he passed away on March 3, 2020. Malina loved her family unconditionally and welcomed everyone into her home. She loved her family above all else and spent most of her free time with her kids and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was active in St. John’s Episcopal Church. The world is a less kind and loving place without her and no one who met her ever walked away not understanding that they had encountered someone very special. We are sure she was welcomed with open arms into Heaven. She is survived by her sister, Rena (Jeb), sister-in-law, Colleen Redfern, her children, John and Kathy, Claire and Dan, Bill and Sue, Carole and Ron, Shelley and Doug, Mark, Donna, Lori, Larry and Stephanie. Grandchildren include Rashelle (Anchalee), Lynette (Anthony) Trisha, Johnny and Taylor, Stephanie, Chris (Carly) Nicole (Brent), Krystal (Jose), Meghan (Nico), Hailey, Billy, Marissa (Dylan), Johnny (Shayleigh), Cody, Malina (Matt), Mark, Buck’s grandchildren, Anthony (Whitnee), Jackie (Hunter), Danny (Shayla), Heather, Jeremy, Amanda (Shane) and 24 great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She is preceded by seven brothers and sisters, her husbands John Redfern and Buck Bruin, a daughter, Julie, granddaughter, Brandi, Buck’s daughter Sandy and his son Michael. Cremation has taken place. Private entombment services have taken place and a public celebration of her life will be conducted on the 4th of July weekend, 2021 when Covid-19 restriction have eased. A Special thank you is extended to Dr. Samieian from the entire family for all the kind and attentive care given to Malina during her illness.
