November 1, 1953 - August 2, 2020
Nancy J. Jamiolkowski (nee Doig) was the third child born into a proud Chicago South Side Irish family in November 1953. She relocated to Montana with her husband, Dan, in 2000 where they settled into a beautiful new mountain home midway between Butte and Whitehall in the Toll Mountain/Upper Rader Creek area. Although never being blessed with a child of her own, Nancy made it her mission in life to dedicate herself to the enrichment and the bettering of the lives of children with special needs. In that pursuit, she attended and was graduated with a degree in elementary education with certification in Special Education from the University of Montana (Western). Nancy went on to substitute teach in Ramsay, Whitehall and Butte schools. She was hired as a full-time special education teacher by the Butte School District where she touched many young lives in the community. Nancy also volunteered her time and expertise and loving, caring concern with the Butte Special Riders Program, the organization which provides equestrian therapy for special needs children, blending her love of children with her affinity for horses. After Nancy’s stint in the Butte schools, her career blossomed as a pediatric case manager at the Community Health Center where she was able to attend to the needs of many children and their families. Nancy dealt with a variety of very difficult cases, some involving child abuse. She sometimes referred to the experience as “Butte SVU”. She found her time there as both challenging, yet rewarding. Nancy retired in 2014 to pursue a vigorous life of gardening, traveling and connecting with her large extended family and even larger web of old and new friends. Nancy passed from the world on August 2nd. She was with family at the end and peacefully slipped up to heaven on one beautiful Montana summer day. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Robert T. G. Doig and her mother, Myra Doig (nee Meehan). Myra’s uncle was an assistant pastor at St. Patrick’s Church in Butte from 1919 to 1932. He is laid to rest in Butte’s St. Patrick’s Cemetery in the “clergy circle”. Nancy is survived by her husband of 23 years, Dan (Whitehall, MT), her sister, Suzanne Clam (Joe) Rock Springs, WI, brother, Robert Doig (Marilyn) Colorado Springs, CO, sister, Marianne Byrnes (Roger) Orland Park, IL, sister, Karen Formosa, Overland Park, KS, sister, Patty Gleason (Marty) Chicago, IL, sister, Peggy Hyland (Mark) Mason, OH, brother, Billy Doig, Los Angeles, CA, sister, Laurie Doig (Birgir Nilsen) Stamford, CT, brother, George (Dr. Janna Jones) Flagstaff, AZ, mother-in-law, Marie Jamiolkowski Scottsdale, AZ, brother-in-law, Raymond Jamiolkowski Naperville, IL, sister-in-law, Diane Schlake (Tad) Naperville, IL, sister-in-law, Kathy Jamiolkowski (Marty Wolf) Scottsdale, AZ, brother-in-law, Dr. John Jacobson Butte, MT and way too many nieces and nephews to mention.
