Miss Arlene Patricia Garvey

Arlene P. Garvey, our beloved daughter, sister, aunt and friend went to be with her keeper on October 17, 2015, while surrounded by her family. Arlene was born on August 6, 1946 in Butte to Joe and Dorothy (Lousen) Garvey. Arlene graduated from Butte Girls Central before going to Eastern Montana College and receiving her degree in history and library education. Arlene worked at the Butte Public Library, taught in Big Timber and Whitehall, before moving back to her cherished Butte America. Once in Butte, Arlene was the first Media Center Specialist for the Butte School District, before moving to a library-tech teaching position at Kennedy and West. She retired from the Butte School District in 2009. Arlene enjoyed life and stayed active in Alpha Delta Kappa, holding several offices including past state president. During her teaching years, Arlene was active in the Butte Teachers Union, being their legislative and COPE representative. In retirement Arlene didn’t stop. She was a member of Retired Teachers, the Butte Burrows Club, Montana Library Association, American Library Association, Gourmet Club, AAUW (when it was active). All of this and she still found time to substitute at Emerson School until her illness. Arlene was very Butte Irish Proud and God help anyone who said anything negative about her fine town. Butte has lost a true fan and am sure she is wishing an Irish Blessing on everyone she knows. Go Butte Dawgs, Go Griz, and Go Yankees!!!!!! Arlene was an avid scrap booker and made scrap books and cook books for everyone in the family. She was also the family genealogist. She participated in several cooking classes and enjoyed water aerobics at Fairmont. Arlene is survived by her mother, Dorothy Garvey, sisters, Joanne (Don) Weir, Lynn (Jim) Harris, Linda Blumer, and brother, Michael (Jamie) Garvey. Arlene leaves behind many nieces and nephews which were her pride and joy. They will all miss their “Auntie Ar”. Also surviving are many cousins and friends. Arlene is preceded in death by her father Joe Garvey, brother-in-law Rick Blumer and niece, Tiffany Reindel. In lieu of flowers Memorials can be made to ADK, Mu Chapter Scholarship Fund, % 3641 Columbus St., Butte Mt 59701.
