Edwin Eugene Engle

Edwin Eugene Engle passed away Friday, May 17, 2024 from injuries suffered in a fall from a ladder. He was born Friday, August 20, 1948 in Lemmon, South Dakota to Edwin and Clara (Hay) Engle. The family moved to Butte when Edwin was two years old and he attended schools in Butte, graduating from Butte High School. Ed worked for Bob Wallace and Ralph Dowland before being drafted into the United State Army. He proudly served his country in Vietnam and following his honorable discharge returned to Butte where he started his career as an automobile mechanic with the Anaconda Company. Following the ACM shutdown, he went to work at Paul’s Chevrolet in Dillon then Whalen Tire in Dillon then Lisac’s here in Butte and finally with the State of Montana Department of Transportation where he retired. Ed was really a “jack of all trades” and a pretty darn good handy man. He was a longtime member of Gold Hill Lutheran Church and served on the Trust Committee there. He and Connie also enjoyed their monthly 55+ lunches. On October 21, 1967 he and Connie Hatch were united in marriage in Gold Hill Lutheran Church and together they had two daughters, Tammie and Tabatha. Tammie preceded him in death on August 6, 2022. He is also preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Marian, brother Bobby, Connie’s parents Fred and Lois Hatch, brother-in-law, Bill Hatch and sister-in-law, Cynthia “Cid” Fischer. He is survived by his sweetheart of 56 years, Connie Engle of Butte, daughter and son-in-law, Tabatha and “Speedie” Lingenfelter of Sheridan, MT, granddaughter, Ashlie Engle and her fiancée Tanner Luiz and great grandchildren, Allen Podgorski and Scarlet Luiz. Also surviving are his sisters and brothers-in-law, Linda Engle of Great Falls, Betty and Bernie McKinney, Karen and Bill Galpin, and Dorothy and Gary Tallon all of Butte. Nieces and nephews include: Jason McKinney, Shawn McKinney, Bernie McKinney, Rick Mercer, Julee Hunt, Heather Harris, Cory Tallon, Amy Gonzales and Kim Nixon. He is also survived by his uncle and aunt, John and Connie Hay of South Dakota. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be conducted Friday, June 7th at 10 o’clock in Gold Hill Lutheran Church with Pastor Sarah Schilcher officiating. Private interment services will be conducted at Sunset Memorial Park.
