Helen Patricia Hanley

Helen Patricia “Patsy” (Murphy) Hanley passed away peacefully Monday afternoon, January 22, 2024 at St. James Healthcare surrounded by her three children, just as she wished. Helen, or “Patsy” as her family lovingly called her was born in Butte, Montana Saturday, March 3, 1945, the oldest of four children to John and Evelyn (Conavad) Murphy. She was adored by her younger siblings, her brother Micky who was her best friend, her sister Frances and their baby brother Kevin, whom she practically raised. All three precede her in death, as well as her parents. Helen attended St. Joseph Catholic School from first through eight grade and graduated from Butte High School. During her junior year of high school she met William “Bill” Hanley. They married shortly after graduation and together raised three children. He preceded her in death in 1986. Helen worked at several jobs throughout her life until she as appointed as a cleaner for School District # 1. She cleaned at several area schools but spent most of her time at Butte High School, retiring in 2008. She was lucky to find loved twice in her life and has spent the most of 40 years with her companion and bests friend, Joseph Navarro, whom she loved dearly and held in the highest regard. He survives. Also surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Cindy Hanley and their children, Trista and Kaylee, her son Michael “Mickey” and Michelle (Zemljak) Hanley, daughter, Kristine Hanley and her children: Jeremy and Savannah Riley and Michael and Amber Derksen. Also surviving are 5 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews all of whom she loved dearly. We will miss you Mom, and until we meet again rest in peace, you earned it! We would like to extend a special thank you to the nursing staff at St. James ICU, namely Holy, Jordan, Tracy and others and to her 5th floor nurses, Christina and others, Dr. Stevens for your exceptional care and compassion toward our mother. Thank you for all you do day after day. We appreciate you all and can’t say enough. Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be conducted Monday, January 29th at 1 pm in Wayrynen-Richards Funeral Home and a reception will follow in Wayrynen-Richards Community Center.
