Jeremy Paul Smout

Jeremy Paul Smout, 47 of Butte, peacefully left this mortal existence, surrounded by his family, on June 16, 2024, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Born March 28, 1977 and raised in Idaho Falls, Idaho. During his growing up, he learned the value of service to others, and as an adult, would drop anything to help anyone, even strangers. At a young age he fell in love with the outdoors, and truly enjoyed being involved with scouting. He had an avid passion for hunting and fishing. He spent many days on the river with his older brother. Camping trips he always made sure to invite friends and family, his philosophy was “the more, the merrier.” Before having children of his own, he made sure to take his nieces and nephews into the great outdoors. He loved to spend time with them, teaching them. When Jeremy’s boys came along, he made sure to take them with him any time he was fishing or hunting. He thoroughly enjoyed four-wheeling, camping, and dutch oven cooking with his boys. Jeremy made sure to even take his boys to work with him, where he was able to instill in them the value of work, and teach them lifelong skills. He was a “Master Jack of All Trades.” He spent most of his life as a Framing Carpenter, building homes from the ground up. He was a mechanical genius, and could often be found tinkering on the cars, with his boys right beside him learning. Jeremy met the love of his life, Karen, in August of 2016. They were married in October of 2017, where the family came together and were blended and blessed. They moved to Montana in March of 2021, partly to pursue Jeremy’s long life dream of owning property and having the opportunity to own a few animals. In July of 2023, Jeremy and Karen were sealed for time and all eternity, in the Helena LDS temple. Jeremy served effortlessly in the LDS church, helping with projects for the local homeless shelter, and working with the young men, keeping them active in the outdoors. The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Jeremy. Jeremy was preceded in death by his father, “Bobbie” Smout, and his mother, Debbie Johnson. Jeremy is survived by his wife, Karen, and five children, Aspyn (Blackfoot, ID), Swayd (Blackfoot, ID), Kayden (Butte), Brayden (Butte), Keegan (Butte), his siblings Dale Clark (Karen, Idaho Falls) Marlena Hardy (Cory, Idaho Falls), Angie Smout (Houston, TX), siblings scattered throughout the country, and many nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life for Jeremy will be held June 28, 2024 at 4pm at the Butte LDS Chapel 1351 Mt Highland Dr, Butte, MT 59701.
