Mary Jo Walsh

Mary Jo Walsh was born in Butte Montana on May 11, 1951 to Creighton and Mary Walsh. She passed away after a long illness with her loving family by her side on February 14, 2022. She was a practicing Catholic and was a parishioner of the Cathedral in Helena, Montana and later Holy Family Catholic Church in Ogden, Utah. Mary was the oldest of three children. She is survived by her brother Buddy Walsh (Lori) of Butte, Montana and Aggie Duhame (Don) of Ogden, Utah, Jean Shaw (Dennis) of Taylorsville Utah; nephews and nieces Sean Walsh (Jackie) of Butte, Montana, Chris Duhame of Ogden, Utah, Bobby Walsh (Christina) of Kyle, Texas, Michael Duhame (Riannon) of Cottonwood Heights, Utah, Anna Walsh of Cottonwood Heights, Utah, Arthur Walsh (Shanden Taylor) of Butte, Montana; great nephews and nieces Brady Walsh, Presley Duhame, Bella, Jack, and Hank Walsh, Brooklyn and Charlie Duhame, and Maisyn Walsh; aunt and uncle Aggie (John) Metz of Butte Montana, and numerous cousins and friends. Mary graduated from Girl’s Central in Butte Montana class of 1969. She started a career at the Anaconda Company and formed many lasting relationships before it shut down in 1986. Mary then returned to college at Montana Tech where she earned a bachelor’s degree in business and a minor in math. One of her favorite pastimes while she was in college, and something she bragged about all the time, was working out with the football team. After completing her degree, she went to work for the State of Montana as a program manager for the dislocated worker program in the labor department. She loved the challenge of writing federal grants for the labor department in Washington D.C. Mary loved spending time with all her family, and never passed an opportunity to brag about her family to anyone that she encountered. Mary had a larger-than-life personality. No matter what was going on in her world she would greet you with a smile on her face and the biggest hug possible. She made friends wherever she went and had an uncanny ability to make the best out of any situation. Mary considered her four-legged friends a part of her family as well and loved them whole-heartedly. Jake, Jiggs, and Tedi were an instrumental part of her life. Mary enjoyed keeping her mind active by playing games, reading, and even doing cross-stitch and solving puzzles. Mary’s family would like to thank the staff at Mount Ogden Health and Rehabilitation Center, staff at Ogden Regional Hospital and the staff at Legacy Assisted Living in South Ogden, Utah for all of their love, compassion, and care that was shown to Mary. As Mary would say, “Thanks Doll”. Funeral services will be at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Butte, Montana on Saturday February 26th. Rosary will be held at 9 am followed by a brief visitation. Funeral Mass will be held at 11am followed by interment at Holy Cross Cemetery.
